What do we eat for breakfast in New Zealand?
We have made a movie to show you what we might have for breakfast in New Zealand.
I have toast with jam on top, and sometimes Weet-bix.
Weet-bix is a New Zealand cereal that we eat in the morning.
Weet-bix looks like biscuits, and I put sugar and milk on top.
I like butter on warm toast so it melts.

The Trojan Horse
Do you know the story of the Trojan Horse?
Silas, Samuela and Turuhira have been learning to use some clever vocab as they retold it for us.
Long long ago there was a huge war, against the Greeks and the Trojans.
The Greeks couldn’t get in the city wall, until Odysseus came up with a cunning plan.
He ordered some talented, hard working artists, to construct a huge wooden horse, and leave it there as a present for the Trojans.
Then they pretended to all sail away.
Silas
It was a trick.
Odysseus and some of his men were hiding inside.
When they saw the massive horse, the Trojans dragged inside the city walls.
They were so happy that the war had ended, that they had a huge celebration party
Samuela
When the Trojans had all fallen asleep, Odysseus came out of the horse.
He was inside the city.
That is how the Greeks killed the Trojans, and won the war.
Turuhira

The Lion and the Mouse 2
Studamyer, Logan and Ahsin have retold parts ot this traditional story and put it together in an animation. They were trying to use some of the clever vocab we had talked about when we read the story.
The lion had a big shaggy neck, large jaws, and was king of the jungle.
The minute mouse had sharp teeth and he was so little.
The mouse was searching for food
The Lion woke up and grabbed the mouse.
The mouse said" Sorry I wont do it again".
The lion felt sorry for the mouse
The lion put the mouse on his paws so the mouse could grab the food.
Little mouse said to the lion "One day I can help you"
The big lion laughed "Ha ha ha"at the little mouse.
The mouse heard the lion roaring.
He ran to him and saw the lion was trapped in a net.
“I can help you” he said.
The mouse gnawed through the ropes.
“Thank you for getting me free, I have learnt that it can be good to be small” said the lion.

How the Birds got their Colours
Have you ever wondered why some birds are brightly coloured and some are just plain?
A long time ago all the birds were black. There were big ones, medium ones, and small ones. But they were all the same dull colours.
Sam the dove was looking for food. He saw a big fat worm and he was swooping down to get it.
But the worm escaped and Sam stood on a sharp stick. It was very painful.
All Sam’s friends came to see if they could help. All except crow who was a selfish bird. He stayed away.
Then parrot went up and burst Sam’s foot with his sharp beak. All the blood burst out on the birds making them colourful.
All except crow, he stayed black....
Elizabeth, Kingston and Julia have retold this story about how the birds came to be all different colours, all that is, except the crow!

Dante, Kobe and Max were each given part of this fable to retell. Dante wrote the orientation, Kobe the complication, and Max the resolution.
They had to use speech marks to show when characters were speaking, and use a variety of simple and complex sentences to retell their part of the story. Then they animated, and recorded it to share with you in an imovie

Kiwis
Our Literacy group has been finding information from the text and writing our own reports.
Kiwis are very special to New Zealand because it is our native bird. The kiwi is on lots of things in New Zealand like coins.
The kiwi cannot fly because their feathers are stiff like dog hair. Its wings are about the size of our pinky. Kiwis dig with their beaks. Because they have got nostrils at the end of their beaks, they can smell when their beaks. They can dig in the ground which makes it easier for them to find food.
Kiwis live in burrows under the ground. They stay in their burrows during the day.
The kiwi is nocturnal that means that kiwis sleep during the day and come out at night. Kiwi eggs are huge. They are about the size of six hen eggs. That is a big egg. When the mother kiwi is close to having her baby her stomach will start sagging.
Kiwis eat berries, insects , huhu grubs and earth worms. They are so good at hearing that they can hear the worms in the soil .It probably finds food very fast if it can do that.
Dogs are very bad to kiwis. Because a dog a could easily kill a kiwi by picking it up. In 1981 a wild german shepard killed around 500 kiwis. That is a lot of kiwis killed.
