Jorja's Holiday

Guess what I did in the holidays! Well in the holidays my family  and I went to a  Korean restaurant for my brothers birthday. He was turning 15 so it was a big  birthday.

This restaurant that we were going to was cool because you could cook your own food just the way you like it . When we all arrived we started cooking. There was so much to choose from that I had to spend 10 minutes choosing my food .

After we  all had  finished eating  we went to sylvia park to buy him a present . My present to my brother was $20 dollars , he got $50 from my aunty another $50 from my uncle and $100 from my family in wellington. So with all that money he bought him self a phone .

After we all had finished shopping we went home.We had his birthday cake that my mum made for him and then we played some family games. First we played  monopoly but we got bored so we played a mixture of pictionary , a humming game ,  and charades.

At the end of the night we were all tired, but we all had a great
time . As soon as  I got home I went to bed. I was wondering what I was going to do for my birthday.

Anzac Biscuits

"Finally!" I whispered to myself as we started heading outside. Our class were going to make ANZAC biscuits! We got split into 2 groups, boys and girls.

We carried our ingredients out to the picnic table. Ingredient after ingredient, we poured in sugar, flour and the rest. Some of the parts we had to melt things, like the butter. So one of the teachers, Flora and Cheyanne. Soon we finished the dough. Next was to create the balls.

As I lowered my hand into the dough, my hand felt something squishy! I grabbed a handful and rolled it in my hand. It felt squishy and weird. Again when I grabbed another handful, it just felt very different and funny. As I washed my hands under the water, again it felt different and funny! After a while we had FINISHED!

Tyla, our teacher and I went to the kitchen to put the biscuits in the stove. We waited for about 10 minutes for the biscuits to cook. When they were golden brown we pulled them out. They smelled DELICIOUS! As we carried them back to the class, I could smell the lovely smell. When we got back Tyla and I ate a biscuit. It was mouthwatering. We also helped to hand them to the class while they were watching PENN.

RECIPIE:

You will need:
1/2 cup white flour
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup coconut
100 grams of butter

2 tbsp boiling water

1: Mix the flour, sugar, rolled oats and coconut into a bowl.

2: Melt the butter and golden syrup over a low heat.

3: Put the baking soda in a cup. Add the boiling water. The mixture will foam up. Add this mixture to the butter and golden syrup.

4: Pour the liquid mixture into the flour and other dry ingredients. Stir.

5: Grease a baking tray. Put tbspfuls of the mixture onto the tray, about 4 centimetres apart.

6: Bake at 180 C for about 15 minutes or until the biscuits are a golden colour.

Frogs by Ane

Frogs have good eyes. The frogs look up down and ahead unlike us.Frogs have really big eyes so they can see where they are going.
The frogs legs are so bouncing. The frogs legs are green and some frogs legs are spotty. The frogs have so slimy and flexible legs.
The frogs eat flies for morning tea and dinner. The frogs really like eating bees and butterflies.Frogs insets on land.
The frogs need to be in a wet place. They need to breath out of water.
Frogs have different eyes.Their eyes are big and bulging so they can see well.
If you see a frog don’t leave it in the sun.Put it in the water so it can not dry up and die.

Frogs

I’m thinking of a commonly found amphibian, can you guess what it is? If you thought of a Frog, that’s the creature that I’m going to tell you about.

Amphibians are creatures that live both in water, and on land. These creatures are members of the zoological class called Amphibia or Amphibians. Like all Frogs are cold blooded.

Because frogs are Amphibians, they are commonly found in ponds, swamps or slow moving water. Under mossy rocks, logs or on the forest floor is where you can possibly find some of these water loving creatures. If they live in dry areas, their skin will dry up and they will sadly die.

Can you guess what a frog's skin and body looks like? Its skin feels really smooth and moist, on the other hand it has a short and stubby body. No neck is what a frog has. These creatures have long legs to help them jump really far.

A frog has webbed feet to help it swim. Their very good and interesting eyes can look up, down, sideways and ahead all at the same time. A frog's tongue is really sticky, that’s because when its trying to catch its prey, its sticky tongue catches it, then eats it .

When tadpoles are born they are Herbivores, that means they only eat plants and algae. After they grow into a froglet or a frog they become a carnival. Eating insects is what they eat.

In Winter frogs hide in little places to keep warm. Sleeping in the winter season is what they do. They hide in cracks, logs, rocks and burrows.

A life cycle of a frog starts off with a female frog and a male frog mating. After that the female frog lays its eggs in the water then, after a couple of days the eggs hatch into newly born tadpoles. About 6 to 9 weeks later the tadpoles start to grow legs. By 12 weeks the tadpole turns into a froglet, which is a frog but still has a little tail.

By between 12 to 16 weeks, depending on how much food it ate, It turns into a frog. Then the frogs will start the whole process again.

Snakes, hedgehogs, snakes, turtles, lizards and birds are frogs enemies. These creatures eat frogs. If they see frogs around they would eat them.

Maud Island Frogs

Maud Island frogs, are one of the four frogs that a native to New Zealand, and they a different to other frogs.

Normal frogs live in water but this Maud Island frog doesn't. The reason why Maud Island frogs don’t live in water, is because they don’t have webbed feet thats why they live in damp places. Maud Island frogs live at Marlborough Sounds, and they live in bushes, trees, steep hills, under rotten logs and above sea level.

Maud Island frogs are carnivores, eating Beetles, Insects, larvae and worms. The way that Maud island frogs catch their food is not similar to any other frog. They catch them by pouncing and shoving them in their mouth EWW!!.

Their predators for Maud Island frogs A lizards. They sneak up on the frogs when they a busy then they get them very fast like a snap. There are only a few Maud Island Frogs. because the rats from another habitat, brought the disease to the Island that why they got rid of all the rats at Maud Island.

I really hope that these frogs can survive the Island and also that the rats can find another place to stay instead of spreading diseases around Maud Island.

Frog Report by Kaycee

How much do you know about frogs? Well firstly a frog is an amphibian. If you want to know more keep reading.

Amphibians are animals that live on land and in water and they are also cold blooded. Most frogs return to the water to lay eggs except for the Maud Island frog.

Amphibians live in wet places like under mossy rocks, wet leaves and damp areas. Most of them live near water because frogs can easily dry out and die. Only one particular frog doesn’t live near water, this is the Maud Island frog.

These amphibians have a short stubby body with smooth moist skin, bulging eyes and no neck. Different frogs can be all sorts of colours like brown or green. Their long hind legs hemp them for jumping. Did you know that they can jump 20 times their length!

A frog’s eye is very interesting because they can see upwards, sidewards and forwards all at the same time. To catch their prey, they use their sticky long tongue. While in its mouth, their tongue is rolled up.

At their juvenile age they are herbivores, so they eat the plants and algae. But when they grow up and turn into frogs they become carnivores. Then they eat things like flies, earthworms, slugs and snails. To hold onto their prey they use their teeth.

The seasons change and when it turns to winter frogs do something called hibernation. This is when they go to sleep for the whole season. Burrows, cracks, holes, logs or in rocky areas is sometimes where they sleep. When they awaken it is Spring time.

In the life cycle the first stage is the frog's spawn next they hatch, the next step is where they become froglets. Next they start developing legs, then they look more like a frog. It is then nearly ready to hop onto land.

All animals have enemies. Snakes, lizards, birds and hedgehogs are all considered as enemies to the frog. However, they lay so many eggs that their species hasn’t died out.

Frogs have very weird lives. I mean, they mate at the age of 3! CRAZY.

Best Camp Ever

Year 5 and six camp was the bomb ! There were millions of activities and you would never be bored .What makes it even better was that I was a leader.

My favourite activity was top teams challenge, not only because we won, I was one of the people who helped others who kind of struggled. That's what made it so fun.

One incident that was really hilarious, was when we were out kayaking. Some people without doubt, did not know how to do this. There were monstrous crashes and some people even managed to tip their kayak over ,and I don’t think that Mr Burt was very impressed about it.

My goal for the year five and six camp was to be a really good leader and come up with a fantastic dance. So I really worked hard on that and I think I achieved that goal.I thought that I was a good team leader and I recon that our dance was awesome because everyone was cheering for us.

Now that camp is over I am so bored.I am really looking forward to going to Kawau Island at the end of the year.
