Ruatapu’s Revenge

I have been reading the journal story Ruatapu’s Revenge retold by Hone Taumaunu. In the end Ruatapu turns into a taniwha, and Paikea rides on a whale to find a new land - Aotearoa.
These are the 2 pictures I have drawn in tux paint. The top one is of Paikea on a whale and the one below that is of Ruatapu who has turned into a taniwha.

PEPA by Kaycee

“HIP HOP!” I excitedly yelled. Watching their group bust out their moves, I wondered where Tyla and Jonita were. I found hip hop very interesting and cool. Looking through the group, I tried to find Tyla and Jonita ( some of my friends). Finally spotting them I watch as they bust out their moves to the song. As Tyla walks to the front of the catwalk, I wonder "OOo! This is going to be great!"

Makerita, Andrea and Jarna walked onto the stage holding a microphone. “What’s this group?”, I wondered to myself. Music started to play and Jarna started to sing. FLY. They were singing Fly by Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. “I came to win...”, sang Jarna. When the rap started Makerita and Andrea came forward. They were great!

As the lights fade away, one of my friends, Jonita, made her way onto the stage. Holding her violin in one hand and her bow in the other, she quietly sat down and began to play. As the bow went up and down across the violin, her fingers moved quickly. I remembered her saying she needed to learn this song. Can’t remembering what the song was called, I furiously started to clap. I think Jonita did a very good job.

“Ballet”, I thought to myself. Dressed in the PEPA t-shirt and skirts, they danced their way on. They twirled and skipped side to side in beat of the music. For one bit they twirled their partners around.

“Woohoo!” I could hear people shouting. The models. As a slideshow played, I read the facts about the different models. Most of them were samoan. Soon after Laurien’s speech the models made their way onto the stage. Walking down the catwalk, they strike a pose looking pretty in their cool clothes! Next out came Tyla. As more models walked out, I wondered who was at the end. Toreka was. Finally everyone from the concert came out.

Leaving the hall, mind blown by the outstanding performances, I can’t wait until their next concert. I didn’t want it to end. I guess all their hard work payed off!

Pointalism Artwork

For a reading activity, our group had to create a pointillism painting. It doesn't look very good up close but once you see it faraway it looks pretty good. It took me a while to finish this though. Here is my finishing product.

Pointillism is where you dab little dots to make up a painting.

The Hare and the Tortoise

The hare was winning the race.

Everyone thought that tortoise had no chance to win against the fast hare.

The hare was far ahead so he went to sleep under the tree.

While the hare was sleeping the tortoise took the lead.

The hare tried to catch up but he is was too late. The tortoise won the race!

The moral of the story is 'slow and steady wins the race'.

PEPA is Awesome - by Kaycee

In case you didn't know PEPA stands for Pt England Performing Arts. On Wednesday we had the chance to watch them perform and they were amazing! I guess all that hard work payed off them and I have to say my favourite act was hip hop. But in 2nd place would be my friend Jonita playing her violin.

Looking through the group, I tried to find Tyla and Jonita ( some of my friends). Finally spotting them I watch as they bust out their moves to the song. As Tyla walks to the front of the catwalk, I wonder "OOo! This is going to be great!"

As the lights fade away, one of my best friends Jonita made her way onto the stage. Holding her violin in one hand and her bow in the other, she quietly sat down and began to play. As the bow went up and down across the violin, her fingers moved quickly. The last bit sounded faster then all the other bits, but it still sounded great. I remembered her saying she needed to learn this song. Can’t remembering what the song was called, I furiously started to clap. I think Jonita did a very good job. I know I wouldn’t be able to do that.

It was a great show and I never wanted it to end. It was really fun watching it and I can't wait until our next school concert.

Esrah's Van Gogh Replica

Having to duplicate a painting by Vincent Van Gogh was very difficult, the most hardest thing was the smooth background . The wonderful Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear and pipe Van Gogh, The painting of the cut ear is magnificent ( painted 1889) . Here is a critique of mine and his painting:

The texture is comparable because, the mood is gloomy and well, dark. The only light part is on the jacket with specks of white. As you can see I have tried to flick of white on the hat, like Vincient Van Gogh.

I have attempted to paint (on the hat) in a flower patterned technique. My chin is darker than his, mine is blackish brown , his is light brown . My painting is a bit messy, but I am quite happy with it.Up close mine is all over the place with colors.

The feeling is dark and gloomy, I don’t think that he was happy at the time because he just cut off his ear.Did you know that there have been stories of how it got cut off, The first story is that he threatened his flat mate Paul Gauguin with a razor, Van Gogh got so angry he cut his left ear lobe off. The second story (That I think is no true, but I don’t know) is that he cut his left ear lobe off and gave it to his girlfriend.

I am happy with the image of the face, and the hat. I think it looks unique .However am not happy with is the black outline, I think it is too thick. It looks like he has no chin.

I could improve my work, by making the cloths smoother and the background smoother too. Next time to not put colors everywhere.I think I would have shade out the chin and the face.
The smoke on mine is grey so I would love to make it white, and I have too much smoke . At the bottom of the background the length is not the same.

I think that he is a magnificent artist. I’m sure there will never be someone that can paint in Van Gogh style.

Marking Criteria by Tyla-Maria

This is an effective paragraph criteria that I have created in google docs. I have to use this for my art critique writing.

Art Reflection by Lorenzo

For the last 2 weeks I have attempted   to make my art work the same as Vincent Van Gogh. I tried to use his techniques  that he use to make it the same. It is called Skull it was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in (1887).

What I think is similar Is the colour on the background. I think it is similar because on my painting I use dark colours on the bottom and I use light colours on the top just how Vincent Van Gogh did.

What is different about my painting to Van Gogh’s painting is the shape of the eye. It is different because on the original painting of Van Gogh’s he used a shape of a circle. But on my painting  I used a shape of a an oval that what it is different about it.

There is an another thing that is different about my painting to Van Gogh’s. The original painting of Van Gogh’s Has a thin crack on the skulls head. But on my painting I have a thick and bold crack on the skulls head.

What I think is the message and mood is death and sadness. It is really realistic because of the contrast and the texture that He done and that's the mood and the message for this painting.

I think I  have attempted  my best to copy Vincent Van Gogh’s Skull painting.

Art Reflection

Art Reflection

Vincent Van Gogh was a famous painter who painted the Night Cafe. He wrote to his brother Theo about it. Van Gogh said himself it was one of the worst paintings he had done out of all his paintings. So Vincent said next that “It was a place that one can ruin oneself and they can commit crimes”,because it was an underground pub where people get drunk and get into bad ways.

The things that I think look  similar between my replica and the original, is the pool table and the Indian man standing next to it. I think the Indian man looks the same because on his body he has a white gown and his head. He is just standing next to the pool table with his hands in his pockets. The pool table looks like the one on the actual painting, because it stands out from all the rest. In the pool table there are three pool balls and the stick nicely set up ready to play.

There are lots of differences in my replica and the original, but I’m only going to share two and that is the Lights on the ceiling and the clock on top of the doorway. I think the lights are different because they don’t really look the same and they not really that big. Some my light that I painted don’t have any connection to the ceiling.

The clock on the doorway does not look anything like the one on the actual painting. It looks like a hole in the wall. I think it does not stand out from the rest, it is the second worst thing in the whole painting.

Vincent Van Gogh was angry trying to get back at himself. He said “ It was an ugly painting”. I think painting is beautiful but Vincent thought it was an ugly painting. The painting is telling some people that not to go out and get in to dumb situations. That is what I think the painting is telling us.

I thought it was a really realistic and it wasn’t ugly.If he said it was ugly he must of been an all time best artist. Thats my Van Gogh Replica

Cockroaches - by Frankie

Did you know that Cockroaches could live without their head for a week?.
Well I didn't know until I read the book.

Well other thing that strange about them is that they could  up to 40 minutes holding there breath in the water.

Cockroaches could also lay more babies then a humans could.

They could live without food for a month.

These insects could eat the left over beard crumbs.

They were around when the dinosaurs were here.
