Chariot Racing

Thanks To i.images.cdn.fotopedia.com for the image

Ancient Greek chariot racing was a very popular  sport . It was popular but dangerous to the horse and the driver. When you played chariot racing you had to have lots of strength. Sadly this dangerous and well known sport from many years ago is not in modern Olympics any more.

As you may not no more than twenty thousand men went to watch the competitors of the chariot racing  compete in a hippodrome. A hippodrome is a l arena were the driver and his horse  would compete .Chariot racing is a very, very dangerous sport, which is probably why we don't have it in our Olympics now.

Why Do Bees Sting?

A bee has a barbed stinger at the bottom of the body. They only attack to defend themself they sting you. Only when you insult or annoy them they will strike.

A drop of poison is injected from the stinger through a tube.Did you know that only the worker bee stings? The sting is fine and sharp.

If you have heard that a bee can sting once, there is another theory. When it stings a person and if you knock it off you will injure it so bad that it will die. But if you wait it will naturally come off.

It is true that a bee can sting as often as we allow it to. That is only if we don't injure it and kill it .

Why Do Bees Sting?

If a bee feels provoked or if people it is then alarmed and uses it self defence weapon. There is a rule it can only sting if the bee is Threatened.

The sting at the end of the bees body is really a fine tube it is barbed too. If a bee stings it could drop a little poison into the human body.

The bee only stings Once because if it gets knocked off then he would get badly injured then die. Sometimes they say it naturally pulls it on sting out and they might live too.

Sometimes, a bee can sting much as often as we allow it, if we do not knock them off the place they stung.

Why Does a Bee Sting?

Bees only rarely sting, if it has been provoked. They basically have a bee rule it is only use this wepon (that nature has provided) if we are trying to kill them. So it is just self defence.

The bee's stinger is a sharp fine barb, this injects a drop of poison through a tube. Did you know it's only the worker bees that stings ?

You may have heard that a bee can only sting once well that is false. What normally happens is that the victim of the bee knocks it of tearing the stinger , this injures the bee soo badly that it dies. But if you care about the bee you will carefully pull the stinger out of yourself.

So it is true abee can stay alive after it stings, if we dont pull it away from the bees body.

Baron Pierre De Coubertin invented the Olympic symbol and also the flag. All the rings are interlocking. Did you know that the rings are these colours because every flag had at least 1 of them?

The Olympic flag has 5 rings which are on a white background. At the opening ceremony the flag is hoisted up the pole. It shall stay there the whole time of the games, but when the games end it is brought down at the closing ceremony.

Do you know what the motto is for the Olympic Games? It has 3 words and 2 of them start with ‘s’. It is swifter, higher, stronger. The motto encourages the competitors to do their very best, but the most important thing is not to win, but to take part.

The flame is one of the best known features of the Olympic games and it is also a memory of the origins. It can only be lit by the sun's rays in Olympia, Greece. Then by relay it gets carried from Olympia to the host city.

On the first day of the Olympic Games the flame is carried into the stadium. It is then transferred from the torch to the cauldron where it stays for the whole of the games. It is extinguished on the final day of the Olympics.

Ancient Olympic Wrestling

Do you know that boys in Greece learnt to wrestle? This was because in Greece they were always trying to win wars and take over countries. Greece was very powerful, until the romans came and took over them.

The place where the boys learnt to wrestle was school! Yes that’s right school. It did cost for parents to send their kids there, that’s why mostly rich people sent their kids to wrestling school.

The reason why young men wanted to do wrestling was because they wanted to train for war. So every time they would go out to fight they would always win. This was until the Romans came along and won took over from the Greek empire.

Wrestling was very popular among the young men. If you didn’t know, wrestling could be won by throwing your opponent 3 times or by forcing him to surrender . The fighters would get many cuts from their gloves their opponent would wear.

Well there you go,you have read all my facts that I have found out about ancient wrestling. Thanks for reading!
