Frogs by Ane

Frogs have good eyes. The frogs look up down and ahead unlike us.Frogs have really big eyes so they can see where they are going.
The frogs legs are so bouncing. The frogs legs are green and some frogs legs are spotty. The frogs have so slimy and flexible legs.
The frogs eat flies for morning tea and dinner. The frogs really like eating bees and butterflies.Frogs insets on land.
The frogs need to be in a wet place. They need to breath out of water.
Frogs have different eyes.Their eyes are big and bulging so they can see well.
If you see a frog don’t leave it in the sun.Put it in the water so it can not dry up and die.

Frogs

I’m thinking of a commonly found amphibian, can you guess what it is? If you thought of a Frog, that’s the creature that I’m going to tell you about.

Amphibians are creatures that live both in water, and on land. These creatures are members of the zoological class called Amphibia or Amphibians. Like all Frogs are cold blooded.

Because frogs are Amphibians, they are commonly found in ponds, swamps or slow moving water. Under mossy rocks, logs or on the forest floor is where you can possibly find some of these water loving creatures. If they live in dry areas, their skin will dry up and they will sadly die.

Can you guess what a frog's skin and body looks like? Its skin feels really smooth and moist, on the other hand it has a short and stubby body. No neck is what a frog has. These creatures have long legs to help them jump really far.

A frog has webbed feet to help it swim. Their very good and interesting eyes can look up, down, sideways and ahead all at the same time. A frog's tongue is really sticky, that’s because when its trying to catch its prey, its sticky tongue catches it, then eats it .

When tadpoles are born they are Herbivores, that means they only eat plants and algae. After they grow into a froglet or a frog they become a carnival. Eating insects is what they eat.

In Winter frogs hide in little places to keep warm. Sleeping in the winter season is what they do. They hide in cracks, logs, rocks and burrows.

A life cycle of a frog starts off with a female frog and a male frog mating. After that the female frog lays its eggs in the water then, after a couple of days the eggs hatch into newly born tadpoles. About 6 to 9 weeks later the tadpoles start to grow legs. By 12 weeks the tadpole turns into a froglet, which is a frog but still has a little tail.

By between 12 to 16 weeks, depending on how much food it ate, It turns into a frog. Then the frogs will start the whole process again.

Snakes, hedgehogs, snakes, turtles, lizards and birds are frogs enemies. These creatures eat frogs. If they see frogs around they would eat them.

Frog Report by Kaycee

How much do you know about frogs? Well firstly a frog is an amphibian. If you want to know more keep reading.

Amphibians are animals that live on land and in water and they are also cold blooded. Most frogs return to the water to lay eggs except for the Maud Island frog.

Amphibians live in wet places like under mossy rocks, wet leaves and damp areas. Most of them live near water because frogs can easily dry out and die. Only one particular frog doesn’t live near water, this is the Maud Island frog.

These amphibians have a short stubby body with smooth moist skin, bulging eyes and no neck. Different frogs can be all sorts of colours like brown or green. Their long hind legs hemp them for jumping. Did you know that they can jump 20 times their length!

A frog’s eye is very interesting because they can see upwards, sidewards and forwards all at the same time. To catch their prey, they use their sticky long tongue. While in its mouth, their tongue is rolled up.

At their juvenile age they are herbivores, so they eat the plants and algae. But when they grow up and turn into frogs they become carnivores. Then they eat things like flies, earthworms, slugs and snails. To hold onto their prey they use their teeth.

The seasons change and when it turns to winter frogs do something called hibernation. This is when they go to sleep for the whole season. Burrows, cracks, holes, logs or in rocky areas is sometimes where they sleep. When they awaken it is Spring time.

In the life cycle the first stage is the frog's spawn next they hatch, the next step is where they become froglets. Next they start developing legs, then they look more like a frog. It is then nearly ready to hop onto land.

All animals have enemies. Snakes, lizards, birds and hedgehogs are all considered as enemies to the frog. However, they lay so many eggs that their species hasn’t died out.

Frogs have very weird lives. I mean, they mate at the age of 3! CRAZY.
