Reflection on our year With Netbooks

Here at Pt England, all you hear about are netbooks, netbooks, netbooks. This is because it is a very important learning tool we use from years 5 and up.

Learning is easier now that we have netbook. I mean, I can share my work with the world just by posting things on my blog. This is a good thing because then my family could see it too. Another reason netbooks are so cool is that you’re not cutting down trees to make them.

Unfortunately there are bad things like small screens. This causes reading tiny writing sometimes hard. But luckily we can make it work but enlarging the page.

Also, making movies is very hard on our netbooks. As our school is creative, movie making is something we should be able to do on something we use everyday. Not just on the imacs.

With a few little tweaks, this could be the most amazing working tool every school should use(if they could afford it). Probably making the screen bigger or adding movie making apps and animating programs would make it so much better.

Best Camp Ever

Year 5 and six camp was the bomb ! There were millions of activities and you would never be bored .What makes it even better was that I was a leader.

My favourite activity was top teams challenge, not only because we won, I was one of the people who helped others who kind of struggled. That's what made it so fun.

One incident that was really hilarious, was when we were out kayaking. Some people without doubt, did not know how to do this. There were monstrous crashes and some people even managed to tip their kayak over ,and I don’t think that Mr Burt was very impressed about it.

My goal for the year five and six camp was to be a really good leader and come up with a fantastic dance. So I really worked hard on that and I think I achieved that goal.I thought that I was a good team leader and I recon that our dance was awesome because everyone was cheering for us.

Now that camp is over I am so bored.I am really looking forward to going to Kawau Island at the end of the year.

Year 5/6 Camp - Jonita

I can’t believe that the Year 5&6 camp is over. Camp Respect was amazing because first of all I was a leader, and second of all it gave me a chance to get to know everyone in my team better. It was also cool because we got to do exciting things with our teachers and played fun games with other teams.

Like I said on my previous blog post, I was mostly looking forward kayaking. We actually did kayaking on Thursday morning, the second day of camp. Kayaking was not as exciting as I thought it would be. It wasn’t that entertaining thing because I kept of getting cuts and I wanted to have more turns on kayaks which wasn’t really successful.

It turns out that I liked concert night the most! It was better because then kayaking I got to see the talents that other people had, ones I didn’t even know about. Kayaking was still good though.

The funniest thing that happened at camp for me was when my partner and I fell off our kayak. You're probably wondering how this could happen. Well, this incident occurred when I dipped my hand in the water. We then rocked for a few seconds and then WOOSH!..... Into the DEEP the blue sea.

My goal was to be an AMAZING camp leader and show my team how to be more responsible and respectful like I said on my past blog post. I think I actually achieved that goal successfully. Well, maybe I didn’t show SOME people a lesson. Anyways, I’m still proud of myself and my team!

I enjoyed camp because I think that achieved my goal, got to meet new people and hung out with my AMAZING friends. I can’t wait until the next camp!

Camp

“Yes It’s CAMP!!!!”I shouted to myself. Did you know that from years 5 to 8 classes they have their own camp at Point England School. It’s starts mostly every year and mostly at the start of the term. It’s my turn and I am a year 6 so I will get the opportunity to be a leader
What I was most looking forward to at camp was the Get Lost.In kayaking I came second place in rowing   but not far behind. At last Get lost I was nearly first place I really enjoyed it because once you play you get an adrenalin rush and you race so fast to get all 10 tasks done. Kayaking was cool because I fell into the sea and out of my kayak. Then we had a bombing competition off the groin aka it's a large and kind of long rock.
. The Funniest moment at camp was when Francis,my friend hit a rubbish bin!!! It occurred because our camp teacher told us that who ever can do the goofiest walk all the way to their tent will get some points. Then Francis pulled my shoulders down and then we went past the bin and “wack!!!”.

My Mum and Dad came down to help with the dinner and my Grandpa (Pop) and my cousins came down to see me every night!!! I can’t believe that he took time off to see me...
My goal was to be a very well and organised camp leader. In the end I thought that I was good but could do a bit better at arriving to the events. I loveee camp because it gets me away from my annoying sister!!! That’s what I like about camp and plus, it was only $60 dollars!!! For two nights and three days that was the best and I mean best camp I’ve ever been to.

Maths Strategy - Compensation

In our maths group our teacher Miss Garden did a poster just like this one, but with equal addition. It was to help us how to do it. I did the same but with Compensation, making it fair.
It is one of the maths strategies we know how to use.

Swimming Time

Mr Marks led us to the YMCA Lagoonfor our swimming lessons, as I got more excited, I was definitely hoping that I was in the large pools. Sure enough, I was. I went zooming past as Mr Marks said “go Starford”

It was my turn to get in. My teeth were chattering as I slid into the chlorinated pool, and cold water stung me all over, I was FREEZING!

As I pushed of the wall I went glidding through the water, looking stragiht up at the roof. I golped some water and I started to cough. Finally I reached the end and me and my friends were glad we made it.

“Yay” I said to my friends, we moved on to freetime and we started playing some wrestling im the pool. Mr Marks told us It was time to get out and get changed

Vote For The Best Introduction

Starford has written three introductions. The first 2 introductions try to hook you in with some action, the last one is tries to get the audience interested by saying what he was thinking or feeling. Please vote for which introduction paragraph hooks you in the most by commenting below.

Have you seen Fast and Furious 5? Well myfamily and I went to the Hoyt's Cinemas in Sylvia Park for the Easter holidays, and it was AMAZING!!!!
As the movie started (Fast And Furious 5) I was nervously waiting for my Dad and my brothers to hurry up and bring the pop corn, ice cream and drinks, because I was really hungry! And guess what we were in the X-TREME screen at Sylvia park.

I never imagined that Fast And Furious 5 (the movie), was going to be better the part 1,2,3,4 but unexpectedly it was awesome. One of the best movie I have ever seen! It was definitely a highlight of my Easter Holiday.

My Little Bother (I mean brother)

"Toreka!" yelled my little brother,"Mum wants you!"
"Wait!" I shouted back, "Tell Mum that I'm writing an email." I could see my brother run in to my parents' room and then back out.
"She still wants you." he said ,"NOW!!"

Oh no, my pen pal would have to wait. I ran to my mum's room as fast as I could.

Hopefully she wouldn't make me do something extremely painful, like clean my room or do chores. "What are you doing?" she said firmly.
"I-I-I-I'm on the computer." I stammered. Shivers slithered up my spine.

"Clean your room!!" she yelled. Clean my room??? If you've been in my room with out an invitation, you'd understand what I'm talking about.

With out a word I put one foot after the other. "Why?!" I groaned. I opened up my door and my younger brother stood there mocking me saying, "Why?" in a high sarcastic voice. Normally, I'd laugh. But today I couldn't be bothered. "Get ouuuuuut" I moaned. "Fine" he said "But I'm taking this." And just like that, he took my jewellery box, ran to his room, and slammed the door. I put my head against his door, I could make out the words he said, " Oooo, Look at me, I'm a girl."

Angrily, I pushed open his door to find everything of mine on the ground. That was the last straw. I was about to tackle him when he held out his arms and said " W-w-wait!!! Mummy wants you!!" Typical. I went to her and told me to clean up my mess from HIS room. I went back to him he whispered, "Just joking."

Good-bye Mr Hunia

Mr Hunia has been the student teacher in Room 17 for some of Term 1 and then 7 weeks in Term 2. The last 7 weeks with have been good. In that time we have played games, been creative and done some hard work. Today Mr Hunia has left to go and study back at his Universty (a school for adults).

On his last day (4th of June ) we had lots of fun, because first of all we had to go and do sport at Tamaki College and after that, yes after that, we had to walk back to school and get changed in to our clothes because we had some more sport.

Goodbye Mr Hunia. Room 17 will miss you.

From Seini-Mino
Goodbye Mr Hunia. Have FUN!

Guess the Compound Word

As you can see this is a picture of my group standing here with our compound word sculpture.

Do you know what a compound word is? A compound word is a word made from two words put together.

Here are some clues to help you guess what our paper mache sculpture is:

1. You can see it at a bowling alleys.
2. It is a royal person that wears a cape.
3. He is also quite special too.

Do you want to guess the compound word??
View Sylvia's blog to find the answer.
