Medley Swimming Relay
Included in the Olympics is a very popular sport and that is the Medley Relay. In this relay swimming is only involved. Four different strokes for four different people makes up this exciting team sport.
Swimming as fast as you can beating your opponents is the aim of the event. When you are swimming you have to do the right strokes and the right turns. This relay also has strict rules, and strict referees.
All athletes included in the Medley relay wear a type of suit called jons. This suit prevents drag. A pair of goggles the swimmer wears keeps the water and chlorine out of their eyes and the swimming cap also helps keep the swimmers hair out of the way.
The talents and skills needed for the medley relay is strength and stamina. Exercise is very important to do if you are a contestant in this sport. Swimming is about techniques and is also about mental psychology.
Overall I think that the medley relay would be fun to do. I also think that this sport is for very fit people. Athletes who compete in this event must be very very fit in order to compete.

Chariot Racing
Thanks To i.images.cdn.fotopedia.com for the image
Ancient Greek chariot racing was a very popular sport . It was popular but dangerous to the horse and the driver. When you played chariot racing you had to have lots of strength. Sadly this dangerous and well known sport from many years ago is not in modern Olympics any more.
As you may not no more than twenty thousand men went to watch the competitors of the chariot racing compete in a hippodrome. A hippodrome is a l arena were the driver and his horse would compete .Chariot racing is a very, very dangerous sport, which is probably why we don't have it in our Olympics now.

Ancient Greek Wrestling
Have you ever wondered what was ancient wrestling like?Well if you were then you're reading the right post.
If you're wondering where young men would train, they would train at a public place called a palestra. It was a wrestling school for any young man who wanted to learn wrestling. It was even a school subject.
The reason why young men wanted to do wrestling was because they wanted to train for war. So every time they would go out to fight they would always win. This was until the Romans came along and won took over from the Greek empire.
Wrestling was very popular among the young men. If you didn’t know, wrestling could be won by throwing your opponent 3 times or by forcing him to surrender . The fighters would get many cuts from their gloves their opponent would wear.

I have been reading the journal story Ruatapu’s Revenge retold by Hone Taumaunu. In the end Ruatapu turns into a taniwha, and Paikea rides on a whale to find a new land - Aotearoa.
These are the 2 pictures I have drawn in tux paint. The top one is of Paikea on a whale and the one below that is of Ruatapu who has turned into a taniwha.

Vincent Van Gogh
This Term our topic is Art Alive. One of the artists Room 17 is researching about is Vincent Van Gogh.
This Is what I have found out so far :
This Poor Dutch man had a sad life and suffered from depression. His feelings are shown in his paintings.
In a fit of anger and depression, he cut off part of his ear and sent it to his girlfriend, but she did not like it.
He got lead poisoning because he used lead based paints and he suffered poisoning from nibbling paint chips. He often didn't have enough money to buy food because he spent what little he had on buying paints.
Van Gogh got only a little money for one of his paintings while he was alive. When he died millions of people then realized that he was an awesome painter. His work is now worth millions of dollars.
This painting is called Starry Starry Night , and it is very well known.

I like this painting too, its called Almond Blossoms.
Now this last painting is my favourite, it is a self portrait of Van Gogh.

Jorja's Holiday
Guess what I did in the holidays! Well in the holidays my family and I went to a Korean restaurant for my brothers birthday. He was turning 15 so it was a big birthday.
This restaurant that we were going to was cool because you could cook your own food just the way you like it . When we all arrived we started cooking. There was so much to choose from that I had to spend 10 minutes choosing my food .
After we all had finished eating we went to sylvia park to buy him a present . My present to my brother was $20 dollars , he got $50 from my aunty another $50 from my uncle and $100 from my family in wellington. So with all that money he bought him self a phone .
After we all had finished shopping we went home.We had his birthday cake that my mum made for him and then we played some family games. First we played monopoly but we got bored so we played a mixture of pictionary , a humming game , and charades.
At the end of the night we were all tired, but we all had a great
time . As soon as I got home I went to bed. I was wondering what I was going to do for my birthday.

Team Work by Maria Samuela
I've been reading Team Work written by Maria Samuela .This story is about a netball team working together and trying their best at netball.
In this team there is a girl called Ina she is the goal shooter for this team and in this story she had the ball and she was far away from the hoop but then she saw her friend Lucy waving her arms out. She could have passed the ball to Lucy but she risked it and took a shoot . Luckily she got a score.
Here are the Positions on a net ball court.

Pt England School Picnic
How many people normally come to your picnic? Well, we had over 600 kids come to our school picnic. We were even lucky to have a sunny day after Thursdays heavy rain. We were so happy.
Finally, arriving at the picnic I quickly put my bag down and rushed to the volley ball game .I played for a little while but then I started to get bored so then I headed down to the beach.
So I started to play with the gooey clay.I made little pottery with the clay and it soon dried up into a beautiful garden pot. My arms were getting tired so I went up and had my morning tea.
All in all, it was a great picnic. Lots of fun, friends and family and my favorite kind of a day.
